Jeremy played JV for 3 years and Varsity his senior year. He started out as defense, then wing, and finally center. Jeremy started playing hockey the spring before he started 8th grade, he had never played before, he never even had one skating lesson. His dad, Carl said that he taught himself how to skate. He was a very determined skater.
He hit the ice with enthusiasm and always gave 110%. He had no fear, he wasn't a big kid in size, but would always go after the biggest guy out on the ice just to prove himself. If he couldn't catch his opponent, he would hurl his body in front of the puck to block the shot. It has been said that if you ever watched him play in a game, you would remember it.
His first year he played for Zeke Kochniarczyk, and then for Mike Anders and Wayne Gunther. The coaches commented on how Jeremy had a lot of heart on the ice and they loved to coach him because of his great enthusiasm. Coach Zeke referred to him as “a little spark plug”.
A former teammate, Mike Zydek once said, “To us he was always the biggest guy out on the ice!”
At the age of 20, on July 14, 2002, Jeremy was killed in a car accident and we honor his memory every time we step on the ice.
